Panaji, Apr 21: As per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), schools across Goa will remain closed until May 3 as no further instructions have been given from the state government so far. Colleges will be functional with only principals and non-teaching staff from Tuesday, April 21.

Meanwhile, some schools had asked the teachers to report to work from Monday, but the teachers resisted the move. Since no official instruction has come from the directorate of education, heads of schools have sought clarity.

A teacher from one of the schools said, "When teachers pointed out to heads of their school that even if the directorate of education issues instructions, it cannot contradict the MHA guidelines, the school heads agreed to keep the schools shut."

While some school heads have clarified that teachers were summoned only to submit the mark sheets on Monday. Another teacher from South Goa said, "When board exams have been kept on hold, internal school results can surely be put off. The Pandemic Act has been invoked and these are unusual circumstances."
