Abu Dhabi, Apr 21: The ’10 million meals’ campaign, UAE’s biggest food distribution drive was launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minster of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, his wife, HH Sheikh Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, chairperson of the Board Of Trustees of UAE Food Bank. This was launched with the purpose of providing food to the low-income families and those affected by COVID-19 across the nation.
This nationwide campaign also coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, allows the public, entities, companies, businessmen, entrepreneurs and philanthropists to make financial donations towards the purchasing and preparation of food for the hard-hit families and individuals in the current challenging circumstances that has left many unemployed and on low income.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) along with the Social Solidarity Fund Against COVID-19 shall oversee the campaign.
The campaign aims to enforce social solidarity and cohesion so that the country can emerge from the global crisis, united. The public, private and humanitarian sectors are united to urge people to overcome the crisis and leave no one behind. Crisis reveals the values of the citizens, entities and societies. The UAE Food Bank, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment and the UAE Water Aid Foundation, Suqia UAE, shall carry out the campaign together in collaboration with ministries, federal and local entities and humanitarian and charitable organizations in the country.
The three entities shall be responsible for receiving donations, technical and logistical support requests, creating an integrated and wide distributing network with partner entities to ensure efficient delivery of food.
On coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan, the campaign also strives to instill the values of generosity and benevolence among the people of the country.
