Mangalore, Dec 14: The city-based Carmelite Friars presented various programmes at the ‘22nd Carmel Day’ held at Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte here.
Aloysius D’Souza, who had won the district level best teacher award for the year 2009, presently working as the headmaster of Rosario High School in the city, participated as the chief guest. He was honoured by Fr Provincial, by draping a shawl around him. Aloysius, speaking on the occasion, recalled the contribution of the Carmelites towards the Christian faithful in the City. Fr Archiebald Gonsalves OCD, Provincial of the Karnataka – Goa Carmelite Province, was the president for the cultural evening. Fr George Santhumayor, superior of St Joseph’s Monastery, welcomed the gathering and presented the report.
A Konkani drama based on the life of a priest, ‘Tuji Khuxi Zaum’, was the highlight of the day. The script of the drama was provided by Fr Deep Fernandes and Bro Sunil Fernandes, and it was directed by Maxim Rodrigues. The Friars also presented a variety of cultural programmes consisting of symbolic prayer, a group song, group dance, creative presentation of ‘The Creation Account’ and a Konkani song. Fr Alwyn Sequiera OCD proposed the vote of thanks. Br Rajesh D’Souza and Br Richard Menezes compered the entire programme. Audiences had gathered in large numbers to witness the annual cultural evening of the Carmelites.
