Udupi, Dec 6: The historically famous ‘Shirva Nadibettu Surya–Chandra Jodukere Kambala’ was held at Shirva, near here, on Saturday December 5 and Sunday December 6, with the splendour of a bygone era.
Y Prafulla Shetty, managing trustee of Sri Vishwanath Temple, Yellur, inaugurated the Kambala at 11.00 am on Saturday.
Over 100 buffalo pairs and their handlers from undivided Dakshina Kannada (DK) participated in the Tulunadu sport. The races used to be annual recreational events held in the silted vast paddy fields in the past in rural areas across undivided DK.
Over 3000 Kambala enthusiasts viewed the buffalo races on Saturday and Sunday.
Kambala organizing lineage family–Shirva Nadibettu, the office-bearers of district Kambala organizing committee, and local residents contributed to the success of this Kambala which was held for the successive 13th year.
