Udupi, Mar 30: BJP regional leader of Mangaluru area K Udayakumar Shetty distributed 5 kg rice bags, on behalf of Kediyoor Udayakumar Shetty Family Trust, to poor families and families of rickshaw drivers at his residence at Kediyoor near here.
Vimala Shetty, mother of Udayakumar Shetty also joined hands in this noble cause. Nearly 300 kilos of rice was distributed to local poor families. Later food was served to autorickshaw drivers and their families. Social distance was maintained during this programme at all times.
Speaking on the occasion, Udayakumar Shetty said, "All of us have to respect the decision of the central government. Due to the lockdown call given by PM for 21 days, daily wage labourers and auto drivers are in great financial distress. So we have to maintain social distance and help each other. There are many orphans in our village. We help them as much as we can. If the public comes across such people they can contact me. This work will continue unabated till April 14. All should stay at home and maintain social distance. Then only we can defeat coronavirus."
Jagadeesh Shetty president of autorickshaw association, Prem Salian, Rajendra Pandubettu and Bharathi Bhaskar were present on the occasion.
