Mangalore, Nov 27: “The selection of winners and the declaration ceremony of the ‘Architects of the Year Awards (AYA)’, promoted by JK Cement Ltd, will be held on Friday November 27, at T M A Pai Convention Hall”, said M P Rawal, administrator of AYA.
Speaking at a press meet held at the venue on Thursday November 26, he said that JK Cements has promoted AYA which was started in 1990 and this year will see the 19th awards.
“The AYA is presented to encourage architects and the best architecture. Y P Singhania, managing director, JK Cement Limited, conceived the idea of honouring the architects by recognizing their best work”, he added.
“The awards will be for ‘Architect of the Year’, commendation awards in four categories, and ‘Young Architect Award’. The jury members are eminent architects from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangalore, Varoda, Ranchi, Ahmedabad, New Delhi, Pune, and Indore”, said Rawal.
“The awards were also extended to neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka, from 1996 and the state architecture award was introduced in 1998 to encourage talent at the state-level”, he said.
The photos of the 191 entries from India and neighboring countries will be exhibited in the hall to be judged by jury panelists. The jury will announce the winners at the ceremony on the same day at 8 pm.
Architect Sanath Kumar Shetty, professional advisor for the awards, was also present.
