Bengaluru: Indira Canteens closed after free food plan backfires

Bengaluru, Mar 24: The state government had announced its decision to provide free food to the people through Indira Canteens. This measure was taken to help the poor to tide over difficult times created by the state-level lockdown announced because of increasing incidences of coronavirus infection.

Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, made an announcement about the decision to close down Indira Canteens. There was huge rush for free food at Indira Canteens on Tuesday. As this was reported by the media, the concerned took a decision not to open Indira Canteens as crowded spots always facilitate spread of coronavirus.

Several hotels have been permitted to run parcel services. Yediyurappa has requested the people to understand the seriousness of coronavirus infection. He sought support and cooperation of the citizens in this difficult phase.

    It's a very good step taken by government but the problem is for some category of people ie those outstation workers who were serving in hotels are in grave situation so far they were completely depending on food in the place they were working. Now that hotels are closed these fellows are in great trouble. They are depending on these Indira canteens. Now these are closed. They can not travel back. How does government solve thier problem?. They can't even cook as they have no provision for cooking. Let them have some solution.

    Why not ensure that there is no crowding and people keep a distance of 6 feet or more when standing in a queue. Why should the poor suffer. Meanwhile I see people moving about in their fancy cars at full speed enjoying the lockdown. Are they going about to buy groceries?.

    dear its not govt fault, yesturday in beedar santhe police apealed people to buy vegitable one by one, but people not ready to listen, then police stopped entire santhe

    This is bound to happen during challenging times that's why govt has to plan wisely and impliment a practical approach. Closing down is not the solution. BJP is very prudent in implimenting CAA, NPR, NRC and systematic mob lynching. Did BJP suspend CAA etc because of protests and backlash?????....

    Governments efficiency is measured not at good times, but at challenging times. Our government was lost in establishing God's kingdom, forgot it is people who make the kingdom. For us and for the government, this is a wake up call, no body is mighty, however powerful one is, god, nature and enemy can overpower. So stay on course, be kind, humble and gracious.
