Udupi, Nov 26: The Mumbai VT – Karwar Super Fast Express recently introduced on a permanent basis will be extended to Mangalore from mid December, informed Railway Passengers’s Association president R L Dias.
Dias stated in a press release that in his meeting with the Konkan Railways chief held recently at Bhelapur, it was requested to extend Mangalore-Bangalore day train to Karwar and Mumbai-Karwar train to Mangalore. The former request was rejected by the official stating that Karwar was a small railway station with no proper facilities required for extension of day train, he stated and added however agreed to the suggestion that Mumbai-Karwar train may be extended to Mangalore. The extension will help people traveling from Karwar to take a train to Bangalore from Mangalore, he added.
The Mumbai-Karwar express was announced in the railway budget 2009. The said train began its service from September 7 last and its term will complete on December 7. The said train (No 0121) will start from Mumbai VT to Karwar on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays at 10.15 pm and will reach Karwar at 1.30 pm the next day. The train (0122) will start from Karwar at 3.30 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and reach Mumbai VT at 6.15 am on the next day. The train service (2133/2134) flagged off union minister for railways Mamata Banerjee will provide permanent service.
