Mangalore, Nov 26: Chairman of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC), Ramachander Baikampady, accused some vested interests of encouraging the fisherwomen to stage protest against the retail outlet of KFDC opened recently in the city, to serve the ulterior motives of these so-called leaders. “These self-styled leaders want to harm the reputation of KFDC by undertaking false propaganda against it,” he commented.
Baikampady, speaking to the pressmen in the city on Tuesday November 24, claimed that KFDC, which had been incurring losses since the last 38 years, has been able to reverse this trend this year, by posting a revenue of Rs 80 lac. He stressed that KFDC, which has opened an air-conditioned stall at Chilimbi in the city, does not have any plans to open any other stalls on the state’s coast till Karwar. As such, there is no cause of worries for the local fisherwomen of losing business, he asserted.
He called upon the fisherwomen not to get influenced by leaders like Satish Baikampady, and to make use of several schemes KFDC has drafted for their benefit. He said that soon, a meeting with the district in-charge minister and the deputy commissioner will be held to sort out various problems being faced by the fisherwomen.
