Udupi, Mar 23: An unidentified woman found to be living in pathetic condition at the government bus stand here since some days without even food, was rescued by the members of the Nagarika Samiti here. The woman stands admitted into the government hospital at Ajjarkad here.
The woman was feeble and found it hard even to speak. Her head had a deep wound and the wound had developed maggots and her hair had got matted together. As she could not go away to relieve herself, the area where she stayed gave out the terrible stench. As she was seen coughing uncontrollably, there was a possibility of coronavirus spread.
Nagarika Samiti members, Nityananda Valakadu, Rajesh Kapu and Taranath Mesta Shirur, who came to know about the lady's condition, gave her a haircut through a barber and admitted her into the district hospital by using the ambulance service provided by Pancharatna Seva Trust. The civic workers then cleaned up the spot that was occupied by the woman.
The woman claimed her name to be Kenchamma (45), daughter of Ramappa, Chowdeshwari Nagar, Davanagere. Her relatives have been asked to contact the citizens' service centre of the district hospital.
