Bantwal, Mar 23: A person who threatened and obstructed the police personnel who had blocked the road leading to Kerala at Saradka on Kalladka-Kanhangad highway as per the directions of the district deputy commissioner in order to stop spreading of coronavirus cases, was arrested and a case was registered against him.

The accused happens to be Raghavendra Rao (50) from Nalka near Perla. The district administration had ordered to close all roads connecting Kerala with Dakshina Kannada district from 2 pm onward on Saturday. The police department, accordingly, had barricaded the roads near the check posts and was turning back vehicles coming that way.

Raghavendra had moved on this road from the direction of Adyanadka several times since morning in his scooter. The police had given him advance intimation that no vehicular traffic would be allowed after 2 pm. Raghavendra overlooked their advice, and continued to move on this road. He reached the point again after the gate was closed, and argued with the police to let him move towards Adyanadka, it is said.

In the evening, he argued with Vittal police sub-inspector Vinod K, to allow him to move in his vehicle as he has a shop at Adyanadka. Even though the police sub-inspector explained that the road was blocked at the instance of higher officials, he posed threat to the staff at the check post at night and tried to incite the people to turn against the police. He also tried to forcibly open the gate and obstructed the policemen from discharging their duties as per government orders. On the basis of complaint made by the police personnel in writing, a case was registered in Vittal police station, and the accused was arrested.
