Bangalore, Nov 21: Three suspected naxals were arrested by the policemen from the city on Friday November 20. They have been identified as Asha, Devendrappa alias Vishnu, and Geetha alias Gangamma. The arrests were made, based on the information provided by Mahesh alias Kiran (31), from Raichur, who was taken into custody by the policemen from KSRC bus stand here on Thursday.
During the questioning, Mahesh had revealed that he happened to be a member of the banned Maoist outfit and the state secretary of Karnataka Janandolana Samiti. Based on the information collected, an operation was launched by the personnel of Karnataka Anti-terrorist cell and Shimoga police, and the arrests were made.
The policemen say that Mahesh was with another naxal, Parvati, during the Edu encounter near Beltangady, but had succeeded in escaping. He also had worked for ‘Vimukti’ magazine edited by Saket Rajan, who too was killed in an encounter last year.
Asha, a past student of Sahyadri College and Kuvempu University, was active in theatre activities.
Devendrappa did not complete his law degree, and had been a student leader. He had brought the students together under the banner of ‘Pragatipara Vidyarthi Kendra’, and joined the naxal movement as a member of its central committee later.
