Moodbidri, Mar 19: Robbers who barged into a house near the paper mill in Pranthya village, threatened an aged couple by flashing a knife at them. They then escaped after robbing cash and gold ornaments. The incident happened on Tuesday night.

S K Miranda and his wife were at their home when the robbers entered into their house by forcing the main door open. They took away gold ornaments found on the bodies of the couple and also cash and ornaments which were inside an almirah.

The gang of robbers had about three to four members, it is learnt. The fact that Mirandas do not have any houses in the immediate neighbourhood proved to be advantageous for the robbers. It is suspected that those who were conversant with the local conditions were behind this act of robbery.

Moodbidri police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
