Kundapur, Mar 19: Raghavendra Ganiga from Kody here, who was found to be raising pro-Pakistani slogans repeatedly at the mini Vidhana Soudha here some days back, was denied bail by a local court on Wednesday, March 18. The court has ordered to admit him for treatment in National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Bengaluru.
The bail application moved by Ganiga was taken up by the first JMFC court. Advocate for the accused pleaded for granting him bail on the basis that he is mentally unsound. Assistant public prosecutor Sumangala Naik, objecting bail on behalf of the prosecution, said that this is a case that will be heard in the district and sessions court.
She asserted that therefore, the court here cannot grant bail to him. She also pointed out that the charge levelled against the accused is of serious nature, and felt that it would not be possible to grant him bail on the basis of the report from the district surgeon. She argued that instead of basing the decision entirely on the basis of the report at this stage, the medical officer who issued the report should be examined. She insisted that unless this is done, bail cannot be granted.
The court thereafter rejected the bail application and ordered Ganiga to be admitted into NIMHANS for treatment.
