Udupi, November 21: ‘Ek Awaz Anoukha Andaz’, a music show for charity, will be organized by the city-based Tarana Association at Poornaprajna Auditorium here, on Sunday November 22, at 5.30 pm.
Tarana Association is a non-profit organization comprising music lovers, whose purpose is to promote and preserve the music that aims to provide a platform to the local artistes, and also help organizations to raise funds through the shows for various causes.
“Old melodies seldom lose their charm, let us cherish these ever-green songs by re-living their memories,” says Ivan D’ Souza, secretary of the Association. The proceeds of the show will go to Ashwathakatte Abhivriddi Seva Samithi, Guddeangadi in the city, he adds.
Tagore Das Mallya, a talented singer from Mangalore, will perform in the show. This singer of international fame has performed in over 6,000 shows in India and abroad so far. Tagore has also written the lyrics and given background score for a few cassettes in Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada and Konkani. With an ambition to develop his skills in music and lyrics, he aspires to bring out his own personal albums in Konkani and Kannada.
Tagore, who has been singing Rafi’s songs for the last 35 years, had an early beginning as a musician. Learning to play tabla and harmonium at the age of six, he started singing by the time he was 12. Tagore, who also sings in Kannada and Konkani, has fans spread over in India and other countries.
Tagore also had presented a record-breaking 12-hour singing programme as a tribute in the year 2008, to mark Mohammed Rafi’s twentieth death anniversary, under the banner of Tarana Association Mangalore/Udupi, at Syndicate Bank Golden Jubilee Hall on July 19, 2008, titled ‘Subah –O- Shaam Rafi Tere Naam.’
