Puttur, Mar 18: After a tempo traveller passenger vehicle tumbled when trying to escape from the police at Lavathadka on national highway 75, the police found a huge stock of beef being transported in the vehicle. The incident happened on Tuesday, March 17.
As the Uppinangady police are taking stringent action against illegal cattle trafficking, this incident came to light. It is said that about a tonne of beef was found inside the vehicle. The illegal beef transporters seem to have shifted to using passenger vehicles for their ulterior deeds to escape police attention. Uppinangady police have registered a case.
Reportedly the vehicle had three persons including its driver. All of them fled after the vehicle tripped.
Police personnel of Nelyady outpost who were posted at Gundia had signalled the tempo traveller vehicle that was coming from the direction of Hassan in the early hours of Tuesday to stop. As the vehicle moved ahead without stopping, the police on patrol duty chased it. The tempo driver increased the speed of the vehicle, failed to maintain balance when taking a turn at Lavathadka, as a result of which the vehicle tumbled, it is learnt.
