Kundapur, Mar 17: Coronavirus scare has touched Yakshagana also. As the government has directed that programmes in which large numbers of people gather should be cancelled, only Yakshagana, Kola and other devotions to the deities are being held.
The suspicion that people are hesitating to come for Yakshagana was heard since the last week. A few art lovers gather after a few hours of beginning Yakshagana play. Therefore, it should be seen if the coronavirus scare affects art along with business.
As the order of the government was out, some melas have cancelled their performances. Perdoor, Goligaradi and Haladi melas have cancelled their performances.
A scene of Yakshagana of creating awareness on Coronavirus can be seen in social media. People say that it is a noble work.
“There is fear among people in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada about the virus. Though the precautions taken are less the people do not care to listen to the advice over it. While between 150 to 200 people used to watch Yakshagana, their number has dropped to from 30 to 40 at present. We need to fill people with courage,” said Sudarshan Urala, convener of Yakshagana Degula, Bengaluru.
