Mangaluru, Mar 17: The repair work of the 68-year-old Kulur Bridge has begun. From March 17, the new Kulur bridge is open for two way traffic. However, heavy congestion was seen on the first day. Especially in the morning hours, people were stuck on the bridge for a long time due to heavy traffic density.
J R Arad and Construction Pvt Ltd is undertaking the repair works for National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
In a notification, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh instructed district police and traffic department to do all necessary arrangements to ensure safety of the motorists who are plying on the bridge.
As per notification, two-way traffic will be allowed on Kulur new bridge. Only light vehicles, 6-wheel goods vehicles and buses which are plying on Udupi-Mangaluru route, are allowed on the new bridge. Containers and bullet tankers, cranes, and trailers are completely prohibited on the new bridge.
Heavy vehicles moving between Udupi and Bengaluru and from Bengaluru towards MRPL can move via Padubidri-Karkala road. Heavy vehicles coming from Udupi can travel on Mulki-Moodbidri road and vehicles from Haleyangadi can move via Kinnigoli- Moodbridri road towards Surathkal and Bajpe.
