Udupi: Four interstate thieves arrested, part of stolen loot recovered

Udupi, Mar 17: Kaup station police arrested four men accused of a series of thefts in Udupi and other districts in the state.

Unknown thieves had entered Manoj Bar and Restaurant, Manipura village between 11.45 pm on March 4 and 8.30 am on March 5 breaking the latch of the door to the kitchen behind the bar. Santhosh Shetty of the bar who entered the bar found that the front door of the bar was intact but the lock to the shutter inside was partly broken. Rs 10,000 from the cash counter were stolen. The thieves had also stolen the DVR of the CCTV. Santhosh Shetty had lodged a police complaint that valuables worth Rs 12,000 were stolen. Kaup police had registered a case under IPC section 457 and 380. Investigations were in progress. Meanwhile, two thefts in Shirva police station limits and of thefts from shops and bars breaking the doors were being reported elsewhere recently.

Sub-inspector Younes Gaddekar was inspecting vehicles at 2.15 am on March 15 near Katpadi junction. He suspected four people who arrived in a Maruti car. The police on inspection found two iron rods in the vehicle. The car occupants upon questioning have confessed that they have entered Manoj Bar at Manipur, stolen cash, DVR of CCTV, UPS battery and its switch. They have also confessed that they broke open the doors of bars in Kurkal and stole cash from there. Upon further questioning they have confessed that they have taken part in sixteen thefts in Udupi and other districts. The suspects are employed in stone quarry in Shirva police station limits and were stealing at nights for luxurious life. They have been produced in court and are remanded to judicial custody till March 27.

The arrested are Ramesh Padder (30) resident of Karwar, who was wanted in connection with eleven cases of thefts in temple, mobile shop, bar, house and three bars in Shirva, Gangolli and other places, Vijaya Hulagappa (30), resident of Bagalkote, who is accused in thefts in two bars, rented house in Shirva, a bar in Moodbidri, three house thefts in Venur and theft in a mobile shop, Noor Mohammed Shaikh(45) resident near Jayanagar, Chitradurga, who is accused of nine thefts in Goa, two bar thefts in Shirva, one bar theft in Kaup, one bar theft in Moodbidri and three house thefts altogether 16 thefts in number, and Ravi (33), resident of Shivamogga, accused of a theft in mobile shop in Kavoor, one theft in mobile shop in Venur, one bar theft in Kaup.

Police personnel confiscated one Maruti 800 car worth Rs 40,000, one motor cycle worth Rs 20,000, four mobile phones worth Rs 16,000, stolen cash Rs 1,973, one DVR, one battery, and a switch collectively worth Rs 82,973.

The operation was conducted by Kaup station PSI Rajashekar B S, PSI Younesh Gadkekar, crime division personnel Pravin Kumar, Rajesh and Sandeep. Staff Ravikumar, Mahabala, Raghu, Shivakumar, Ananda, Jagadish and others have cooperated with them.
