Udupi, Mar 16: “The army recruitment rally that should have been held in the district from April 4 to April 14 is postponed as a precautionary measure. It will be held in January next year,” said deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh.

He spoke at the preliminary meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office on Monday for the army recruitment rally. “Permissions were given to submit online applications from February 16 to March 20. 31,500 candidates have registered their names so far. A minimum of 35,000 candidates are expected to register their names in the next four days. As assembly of such a large number of people in the background of coronavirus is risky, the recruitment that was planned for April is postponed to January. 85 candidates in Udupi have registered their names. More youth are expected to register their names in the upcoming days. Candidates in the district who have registered their names to participate in the rally will be trained in December. There is no intention of holding the rally in other district. It will be held in Udupi itself,” he said.

“Though the rally is postponed, interested candidates can register their names till March 20. Those who have registered their names need not register them again. The registration process will be opened again in October for five days. Those who could not register their names this time may get them registered in October. As other rallies already scheduled between September and December will be held as planned, the rally that was planned in Udupi will be held in January,” he said.

Army recruitment officer, Colonel P Dubhash congratulated officials who worked for the preparations of the rally and expressed confidence that similar cooperate will come forth in the future too.

Additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, sports and youth empowerment department assistant director Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, ASP Kumarchandra, DDPI Sheshashayana Karinja and other department officials were present.
