Mangaluru, Mar 16: A skill development training programme was inaugurated at Talipady Weavers Co Operative Society at Kinnigoli on March 13. The Kadike Trust organized the training programme in association with Talipady Weavers Co Operative Society for new Udupi saree weavers. NABARD is giving financial support for the refurbishment of five looms and a training programme.

Two batches of five trainees each will be given training in the weaving of Udupi saree and other products for four months. NABARD Karnataka for the first time in South Canara is funding such a programme. This will give a boost to the revival efforts of Udupi saree by Kadike Trust.

Ramesh S, D D M NABARD explained about the work of NABARD and praised the revival efforts of Kadike Trust and said after noticing the work done by Kadike trust NABARD has come forward to join hands in this work, understanding the situation of this exquisite artform going for extinction. He wished all success to the candidates and assured about helping similar projects in future. Gerald Rego branch manager, Corporation Bank, Kinnigoli explained the various schemes available to weavers societies. Mamatha Rai president, Kadike Trust explained about the work of the Trust and details about the training programme.

Chandran, Master Weaver's trainer from Trivandrum and Anand Shettigar president Talipady Weavers Society, Purushottam Adve and Chikkappa Shetty trustees of Kadike Trust, Madhava Shettigar M D Talipady Weavers Society, Vishwanath Shettigar, Bhavani Shankar, Rathnakara Shettigar, leaders of weavers community, senior weavers and members of the Society were present.
