Mangaluru: Lions Club to hand over houses to eight homeless families

Mangaluru, Mar 16: "The handing over ceremony of eight houses build under the aegis of Lions district 317 D and Lions District Ashraya Trust under the project 'Soorilladavarige Sooru' (home for the homeless) will take place at Kurnadu on March 15," said Devadas Bhandary, Lions Club district governor of the year 2018-19.

Speaking at the press conference at Thokkottu of the city, Bhandary said, "The first project was to build houses for the deluge victims of Kodagu. Now eight houses are built on 12 cents of land owned by me. Rs 64 lac is spent for the construction of these eight houses.

"Eight families of local, Dharmathala, Hassan and Sakleshpur are identified by the Tahsildar and panchayats. They will be handed over the keys for the houses as well as relevant property documents. These families had financial difficulties and no home to stay. Precaution is taken that the beneficiaries do not sell or pledge these houses for the next 15 years.

"N Shantaram Shetty, vice-chancellor of Nitte University will hand over these houses to the beneficiaries. District governeor Ronald Gomes, MLA U T Khader, Lions deputy governor Dr Geeta Prakash and second deputy governor Vasanth Kumar Shetty will be chief guests of the event."

Balakrishna Hegde, Srinath Konde, Bhagwandas Kajava and Radhakrishna Rai Umiya were present at the press conference.
