Udupi: Lady loses over Rs 52,000 after her account was hacked

Udupi, Mar 15: In an incident reported from the town, money belonging to a lady was siphoned off by fraudsters who induced her to download an app that could hack details of her bank accounts.

Megha J Pandya, resident of Vidyaratna Nagar in Manipal, was taken for a ride by the cheaters. Megha says she had called the customer care number of Google Pay to enquire why her Google Pay account had become inactive. She was told that she would be contacted through another number. She was later told that she was being contacted through the PayTM KYC number, and was asked to download an app known as 'quick support'.

The lady got the app downloaded. She also shared certain details sought from her. Later, she found that a total sum of Rs 51,891 had been siphoned off from her savings bank account with Andhra Bank Chennai branch in three transactions. A case in this respect was registered in cybercrime, economic offences and narcotics (CEN) police station.
