Udupi, Mar 14: Padmashri awardee, Akshara Santha popularly known as Harekala Hajabba, was honoured at Karnad in Bappanadu here, on his remarkable achievements in imparting education to poor children.
On receiving the honour, Harekala Hajabba said, "Bappanadu Kshethra is known for sarva-dharma and harmony. I would like to thank all for honouring me. Let more such poor students be benefitted by the goddess of grace of Bappanadu. If developmental works on education are taken up everywhere, then rural areas will definitely be developed."
The felicitation was organized in a Yakshagana Bayalata programme which was sponsored by Bappanadu Sri Durgaparameshwari Yakshagana Mandali held at Karnad junction.
"Hajabba is a model for the future generation and to the nation by providing education for poor children. He has dedicated his life to providing education," said Kilpady Bandasale Shekhar Shetty, honourary president of Bappanadu Brahma Kalashotsava committee.
Francis Cutinho, principal, Padav High School, S Manohar Shetty, administrative (Moktesar), Bappanadu temple, Jeevan Shetty, businessman, Santhosh Karkera, Vasanth Shetty, Bhujang Shetty, Shivaram Amin, Mukhesh Kotian were present.
Dinesh Kolnad welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.
