Mangaluru, Mar 10: MSNM Besant Institute of Post Graduate Studies hosted a two-day workshop on ‘Enhancing Personal Effectiveness for a Rewarding Career’ on March 5 and 6 at Swarna Academy Hall in MSNM Besant campus at Bondel, Mangaluru.
Fr Alwin Serrao principal, Padua College of Commerce and Management, Nantoor, Mangaluru inaugurated the workshop. K Devanand Pai secretary, Women’s National Education Society was the chief guest. Dr Molly S Chaudhuri director, MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies presided over the inauguration ceremony.
The objective of the workshop was to provide a platform for the students to enhance their skills and prepare for a promising career. Over 135 students of degree colleges in and around Mangaluru participated in the workshop.
In his inaugural address, Fr Alwin Serrao observed that present-day students have education but not the required skills. “We see how much our bank balance increases but we ignore to assess how our much skills, knowledge and vocabulary have increased. Students have to learn to convert their knowledge gained through education into wisdom," he said.
Highlighting the value of skill, he gave the example of anger, which is destructive when expressed recklessly but can be made productive when expressed choosing appropriate words and tones. Quoting the Persian mystic Rumi, he said- “Raise words and not voice. Rain grows flowers, not thunder.”
Prof Manoj Louis faculty, GFGC Kavoor, Dr Malini Hebbar head of the Department of English, St Agnes College, Niveditha Mirajkar freelance trainer, Dr Ravisha B faculty at MSNM Institute, Preetham Kamath faculty, Chartered Accountants’ Institute of India, and Dr Rashmi Uchil faculty, were the resource persons.
Usha Mogra faculty at MSNM Institute welcomed the gathering and compered the inauguration ceremony. Suresh Shenoy faculty and coordinator of the workshop rendered the vote of thanks.
