Dhatwada-Usgao locals demand for bandara demolition

Ponda, Mar 9: Dhatwada-Usgao locals have demanded the razing of a bandhara erected at Dhatwada. This possibly could reduce the chances to get Mhadei water for augmentation of Khandepar river at Opa.

On Wednesday, the villagers allowed the Water Resources department to lay a pipeline under the river bed of Dhaushirem-Khandepar nullah, only on a condition that the department demolished the bandhara which is built inside the nullah.

However, with the Bandhara now filled with water, the WRD refused to demolish the bandhara. "If we have to release the water, we have to remove plates of the Opa barrage which is impossible at this stage," said WRD executive engineer Arun Naik.

The locals have also raised the issue in the presence of Ponda deputy collector and sub-divisional officer Kedar Naik, at the Dhatwada Usgao Citizen Forum where they demanded that WRD officials demolish the bandhara.
