Puttur, March 6: Puttur taluk panchayat president K Radhakrishna Borker has confronted panchayat development officers who remained absent or arrived late for the seminar on groundwater held in Puttur taluk auditorium by Karnataka groundwater directorate Bengaluru and district groundwater officer, Mangaluru.
The seminar was held today, March 6 at 10 am. But the president who saw the panchayat development officers arriving late expressed his displeasure over lack of punctuality. “The department of groundwater has prepared an excellent plan and we should make the most of it. Its details should be provided to people. Incidents such as these should not be repeated. Suitable action will be taken against those who remained absent,” he said. “Protection of groundwater is the responsibility of all of us. People should be made aware about preparation of pits to recharge groundwater under employment guarantee scheme,” he said.
Panchayat vice president Lalita Ishwar who released the department handbook said that water is basically provided by nature. “The programme by the department of groundwater is commendable,” she said.
Chief guest, social standing committee taluk panchayat president Saji Radhakrishna Alva said that extra care should be taken to prevent wastage of water. “Borewells are increasing in rural areas. Therefore, the development of lakes is necessary,” he said.
Senior Geologist Janaki P gave an introduction. State resource person Rathnashree Joseph G M Rebello gave details on protection of groundwater. Prafulla gave a welcome speech. Shivaprasad rendered the vote of thanks. Shivaprakash compered the programme.
