Ballari, Mar 6: After the incident in which a lady veterinarian was raped and killed in Hyderabad recently, in another incident, rapists of a six-year-old girl in Dumka district in Jharkhad were given death sentence by the court within 25 days of filing the case.
In both these case, police officers from Karnataka played a stellar role and both the officers have come in for praise. Cyberabad police commissioner Vishwanath Sajjan, who hails from Hubballi, gave the case a logical end by killing the rapists in an encounter, while superintendent of police (SP) of Dumka district Y S Ramesh, who made sure that the rapists were awarded death sentence in 25 days, hails from Ballari.
Both the officers have proved their acumen in handling the cases and made Karnataka proud.
The uncle of a six-year-old girl had escorted her to a fair organized within the limits of Ramgarh police station in Dumka district on February 5. Three accused including the uncle, in drunken state, had raped the girl inhumanly and killed her. The girl's body was found buried in an agricultural field two days later. A case in this respect was registered in Ramgarh police station.
SP Y S Ramesh who took over investigation of the case himself, arrested the accused from Mumbai. He produced them in the court and remanded them to judicial custody on February 12. He contacted forensic science laboratory officials at Ranchi and ensured that blood and DNA tests are conducted and reports are provided within three days. Scientific evidences were pooled together, investigation was completed, and charge sheet was filed in the court on February 26).
The court concluded trial within four working days and pronounced death sentence to all the three accused and imposed fine of Rs 50,000 each on Tuesday March 3.
