Mangalore, Nov 9: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged an impromptu protest in front of the divisional office of finance company Shri Ram Chits(K) Private Limited near Balmatta, for its harassment of a customer by charging higher interest rates.
The protesters alleged that the finance company was exploiting customers and looting the poor by making wrong calculations in an effort to extract more money.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, former state president of DYFI, who led the protest, said that the finance company demands a higher rate of interest for loan settlement while other banks and finance companies provide special rates for one-time settlements.
“A customer was being charged a higher rate of interest by the staff. It irked us that they are exploiting the poor people who approach them for their financial needs”, he said.
“The staff in that office treats the customers rudely. They show anger when a customer asks for one-time settlement of the loan and demand a higher rate of interest”, he added.
The customer’s issue was settled after the protest, with the involvement of the police. Several people, who were also harassed by the same company, joined the protest.
