Kuwait, Mar 1: MOGAVEERS ASSOCIATION Kuwait, affiliated to Indian Embassy Kuwait, is a community welfare association by non-resident Mogaveeras, based in Kuwait. For the fourth time, MAK organised a national-level volleyball and throwball Tournament under the title of 'MAK Champion Trophy 2020' on February 25, 2020. The tournament was held at American International School Maidan Hawally, Kuwait.
The tournament coincided with the National day of Kuwait celebration. The weather was pleasant, the participants and the MAK members were all geared up for the tournament. The day-long tournament commenced at 7.30 am with a parade of all the participating teams, the MAK management committee, volunteers and the guests. The grand opening was led by the talented committee member Suresh Salian. On behalf of MAK management committee Poonam Mendon and Nishanth Salian, the host for the day welcomed the gathering.
This was followed by Kuwait and the Indian national anthem. The chief guests of the day were Anant Kapadia chairman of Indian Business and Professional Council, Kuwait and PK Venkat deputy chief operating officer of Art of Living. The other guest for the day was Suresh Shyam Rao freelance press reporter for web news portals and print media. The guests were presented with a floral Bouquet.
Ramesh Kidiyoor convenor and founder president of MAK was honoured for his excellent service and contribution towards MAK. Monika Cornelio
co-ordinator of Kuwait Konkans (Throwball) and Noel Cutniha manager of Boubyan Strikers (Volleyball) were honoured for their excellent
contribution towards sports in Kuwait and also for their outstanding support to MAK. Chennaraj MK senior member of MAK was honoured with a memento and bouquet for his excellent service and contribution towards MAK, as he was leaving Kuwait for good.
Rajesh Mendon president of MAK in his speech welcomed the gathering and stressed the importance of playing with true sportsman spirit and
thanked all the teams for their support as this event is conducted for the MAK welfare projects. The guests in their speech encouraged the players and conveyed their best wishes to the participating teams and organizers. The president of MAK Rajesh Mendo convenor Ramesh Kidiyoor along with the chief guest inaugurated the volleyball and throwball tournament by cutting the ribbon. The medals and trophies of the tournament were unveiled by sports secretary Arun Mendon and Pro and Welfare officer Jaya Kotian.
Geetha Suvarna committee member of MAK Along with Monika Cornelio inaugurated the throwball court and Sachidananda Suvarna vice-president of MAK along with guests inaugurated the volleyball court by servicing the ball. The other guests for the day, Wilson D'Souza former president Tulukoota, Tharendra Shettigar former president Tulukoota, Vijay Wilson general secretary Tulukoota, Roshan Quadras sports secretary Tulukoota, Lionel Mascarenhas welfare officer Tulukoota, Manoj Bangera advisor Billava Sangha, Sushma Manoj vice-president of Billava Sangha, Lawrence Pinto, Ganesh Hegde, Vakas Khan and Sudhakar Shetty convenor of Tulukoota were all honoured with a bouquet. The participating volleyball teams were - Bayan Salmiya, Boubyan Strikers, Riggae Volley, Kunjal Friends, Salmiya Spikers, KSAC, MKV Strikers
The participating throwball teams were - Canara Eleven, Dragon Scorpions, Queens, Warriors, Kuwait Konkans A, Alfa, Kuwait Konkans B and Scorpions. The volleyball inaugural first-round match started between Bayan Salmiya and Salmiya Spikers and the first round of throwball inaugural match was between Canara Eleven and Warriors. The teams played with full enthusiasm and viewers enjoyed and experienced the spectacular show. As the day progressed, matches kept rolling one after another.
The event sponsors were TVS Travels and Cargo Co WLL, gold sponsor was Oriental Restaurant Kuwait, silver sponsor Badar Al Samah Medical Center. Best wishes from Vision Direct logistics, Wilson D’Souza and family and Monika Cornelia.
Printing of raffle was sponsored by Turmeric Restaurant. The referees for the volleyball game were Alexander Mathew and Sajan Samuel. The referees for the throwball game were Ivan D'Souza and Arun Mendon. The scorers for throwball team were Geetha Suvarna, Rakshith Suvarna and Ganesh Hegde. The scorers for volleyball team were Kishore Kotian, Nithin Suvarna and Santhosh Kunder. The announcements were done by Girish Mehta and Kishore Kotian. The sumptuous breakfast, lunch and snacks were provided by Bollywood Restaurant. Beautiful moments of the day were captured by Rajesh Devadiga. Design of brochure and banner was by Sachidanada Suvarna. Wonderful background music was courtesy of DJ Ronald D’Souza Mulky and the sound system was provided by Anand Sounds. The volleyball tournament ended with a finale of final matches between MKV Strikers and team Boubyan Strikers. After a tough battle between the two strong teams, Boubyan Strikers bagged the winners Trophy and team MKV Strikers were declared the first runner up. Reggai Volley won the second runners up trophy and MAK player of the tournament for volleyball was secured by Rahul from Boubyan Strikers.
On the other hand, throwball tournament ended with league matches. Team Dragon Scorpion Queens defeated the opponents and became the winners for the fourth consecutive year. The first runner up was Kuwait Konkans A and team Alfa bagged the second runners up trophy. MAK Player of the tournament for throwball was secured by Hancil Pinto of Team Dragon Scorpion Queens.

Tulukoota graced the prize distribution ceremony. As a token of respect, they were presented with a floral bouquet. President Rajesh Mendon, convenor Ramesh Kidiyoor along with the guest awarded the trophies and medals to winners, whereas the MAK members gave away the trophies and medals to runners up teams and the individual achievers.
A raffle draw was conducted by MAK and the winners were:

The 10 consolation prize winners were Yadav Reggai, Athaulla, Imtiyaz, Irin D'Souza, Arif, Prakash Poojary, Pranavi Laksh, Ajith Kumar and Sudesh. In her vote of thanks speech, Poonam Mendon thanked each and everyone responsible for the success of the tournament, participants, sponsor’s, organisers, MAK volunteers, MAK management committee and executive committee. Finally, a special thanks was given to the management and staff of American International School Maidan Hawally for the awesome venue.
