Puttur, Nov 4: A commercial tax official named Rajanna, was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta officials on Tuesday November 3, while accepting a bribe of Rs 500 from a merchant from Uppinangady in the taluk.
A merchant from Uppinangady, named Padmanabha, who was running a tea powder business under a partnership, wanted to run the business on his own. He already has a Taxpayer's Identification Number (TIN), it is said, and there should not have been any problem in entertaining this request. However, Padmanabha complained to the Lokayukta, saying that commercial tax department official Rajanna was creating problems for him, and that he was demanding bribe to issue necessary permission.
On Tuesday, as Padmanabha handed over Rs 500 to Rajanna, a team of the district Lokayukta, which was lying in wait, took him into custody.
