Mangalore, Nov 4: Nithya Sahaya Matha High School of Arkula, Omzoor is entering into its 40th year of service this year. To make this historical landmark a memorable one, the management has several activities lined up.
Among several activities and projects planned to implemented during this year are raising intellectual level of the students, providing necessary infrastructural facilities to the school, introducing computer assisted learning, involving the local heads to make it a community-friendly school and forming a strong alumni association to draw continual support to the school.
The management has formed an organizing committee consisting of 20 members and convened a meeting recently where in the plan was proposed and it received an overwhelming response. Most of the members even expressed that they had no chance to involve themselves in the betterment of the school as occasions were few. They felt the need to improve it and provide quality education to the children of the locality thus to avoid sending them to distant schools. The members strongly suggested rejuvenating the alumni association during the year and organize Alumni Day. To mark the 40th year, it was also decided to inaugurate the alumni association in a grand manner in the first week of January 2010. A committee to shoulder the responsibilities was elected with following office bearers.
Sr Lucy Mascarenhas was elected as correspondent and Sr Clita Lobo as assistant correspondent with Francis Cutinho (1982-83 batch) as president. Mahesh (1991 -92 batch) is the vice- president, while Ronald Vas and Sadananda Alva (both 1972-73 II batch) are the honorary vice-presidents. Florine D’Souza, teacher was elected secretary whereas Gretta D’Souza (1981-82 batch), Sujata (1981-82 batch) and Anil Lobo (1986-87 batch) were elected joint secretary, honorary joint secretary and treasurer, respectively.

Florine Cutinho, Juliet Baretto, Fr Robert Lasrado, Oswald Lobo, Denis Pinto, William Vas, Melwyn Braggs, Prafulla Saldanha, Ramesh Karkera and Donald Cutinho were present at the meeting. Staff members, Juliet Vas, Jayasheela V Muni, Cecilia Noronha, Sharel Renita D’Souza, Subraya Kamath and Cynthia Lobo too were present.
The meeting focused its attention on the formation of alumni association as its immediate venture. Therefore membership drive for the association was proposed. It was decided to contact all the old students of the school and ask them to register themselves as life members with a membership fees of Rs 1000/ and SSL C outgoing students for Rs 100.
The organizing committee also expressed the need to launch a website of the school as a significant tool of communication and correspondence to reach out to the old students and beneficiaries of the school.
The members present at the meeting registered themselves on the spot to be the life members and inaugurated the drive. It was said that registration can be done through the association’s e-mail id- nsmolds.association@gmail.com
