Mangalore, Nov 3: Karnataka fire and emergency services inspector general of police (IGP), P S Sandhu, said that the state has plans to increase the number of its fire stations, from the present 156 to 206, by the end of year 2011. He was speaking to reporters, after the inauguration of the new building of Kadri Fire Station in the city on Monday November 2.
He noted that the number of multi-storied buildings is increasing both in Bangalore and the city. For undertaking relief operations in such buildings, the fire brigade needs TT ladders. Already, a proposal for the supply of ladder 58 to Bangalore and ladder 32 to the city, has been sent to Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, he revealed.
Preliminary measures to set up separate unit of the National Disaster Relief Force in the state, to undertake emergency relief operations in case of serious natural calamities, are being undertaken, he said, stressing that all the concerned have to undertake mandatory precautionary measures against possible fire disasters as per rules.
