Udupi, Nov 3: In a complaint filed with the Kaup police station near here, two girls have complained that a warden of Bethel Boarding Hostel (New Life Sect) in Udyavara has been exerting pressure on them to convert into Christianity. The complainants have been identified as Megha H L (16), daughter of Lokesh H M from Hettur village in Sakleshpur taluk, and her friend, Shilpata, from the same village.
Both of them are the students of the government PU College in the town. They have been staying in the said hostel since June this year. In the complaint, they have accused the hostel warden, Saroja Margaret, of pressurizing them to read the Bible every day, and threatening them to kick out of the hostel, in case of their failure to do so.
“On every Sunday morning, the warden asked us to read at least ten sentences of the Bible, warning that we would not get the break fast if we fail to accede to this order. 30 children from the hostel are regularly being taken to Ajjarkad church in jeeps, where they are made to pray, in an attempt to convert them into Christianity,” the girls said.
The policemen have registered a case. Investigations are on.
