Mangalore, Nov 2: The District Youth Congress Committee demanded the resignation of state home minister Dr V S Acharya for his failure to keep his promise of opening a police commissionerate in the city.
Speaking after handing over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner addressed to the state governor on Monday November 2, Arun Coelho, president, Youth Congress Committee said, “Dr V S Acharya gave two dates, August 15 and November 1, for the opening of the police commissionerate in the city. But both the dates have passed by. So, it has been proved that he is giving fake assurances and cheating the public without keeping his words”.
He added that the transfer of police officers is a routine government procedure. Coelho said that Bangalore and Mangalore had become the hub of ‘goondas’, robbers, and thieves.
He said that there are 2,200 cases of missing young girls that have been registered in police stations in the state from 2008 to May this year which have not yet been solved.
Terming these examples of misadministration of the home ministry, Coelho suggested that the governor seek the resignation of the home minister.
Youth Congress activists also staged a protest against the failures of the state government, and the interruption in power supply which disturbs the people.
The protesters sarcastically suggested that candles be distributed along with the electricity bills as a solution to the power problem.
MLA U T Khader, Congress leaders Naveen D’Souza, T K Sudheer, and Bondala Jagannatha Shetty were present.
