Mangaluru: 'Women achievers following Abbakka's ideals will be rewarded' - Kota

Mangaluru, Feb 22: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, stated that women achievers who have stood by the ideals followed by Abbakka Rani will be chosen for 'Veera Nari Abbakka Award'.

He was speaking after reviewing preparations being made for celebrating Abbakka Utsav - 2020 at a meeting organized in the auditorium of the deputy commissioner's office here on Friday February 21.

"We will draw up yardsticks for choosing achievers for Abbakka award. There is a plan to confer the award on only one person. The government plans to invite women achievers to inaugurate the festival and thus spread the achievements of Abbakka at the national and international levels. The Utsav this time will be held on February 29 and March 1 at Asaigoly. As part of the Utsav, sports festival will be organized. Competitions among school and college students on the history of Abbakka will be held on February 25," he said. Kota also expressed happiness at the fact that many locals have joined hands with the government in the success of Abbakka Utsav.

Deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, additonal deputycommissioner Roopa, officers from different departments and leaders of organizations and institutions were present.
