Beltangady: Sandalwood Smuggling: Two Held

Beltangady, Nov 1: The duo transporting sandalwood illegally to Kerala were nabbed by the team led by local sub-inspector in Ujire here on Saturday October 31 evening.

The arrested have been identified as brothers, Mohammed Moosabba (33) and Mohammed Basheer (19) and residents of Ellur near Arafa Masjid of Belapu village in Karkala taluk. The value of the seized sandalwood is estimated to be Rs 50,000.

On a tip-off, the police team held the two and seized two bags comprising 16.5 kgs of sandalwood near Ujire bus stand. A case has been registered at the town police station and investigation is on to find out to who the duo was planning to sell the sandalwood and from whom it was purchased.

    These are anti social elements. Please book them and send them to jail for destroying natural wealth and dealing in contra banned goods. No body is above law. Criminal must be treated as criminal and not as war hero... These people are disgrace to the community they belong. Instead of doing nation building work, are engaged in anti social activities. Send them to reform homes and rehabilitation centers until their case is heard and judgement is pronounced..
