Bellary, Oct 31: At a time when the Reddy Brothers have increased the tempo of their tongue-lashing of the Chief Minister and have been vociferously demanding for Yeddyurappa’s scalp, the new officials who have replaced those loyal to the Reddy Camp, have started to wield their batons. These officials have started to stop illegal mining and transportation activities, which had been going on unchecked since many years, thus making the mining barons rich enough to even shake the state government.
It is gathered that the deputy forest conservator, Biswajit Mishra, has been particularly ruthless in dealing with illegal mining activities. It is gathered that he has left strict instructions with his subordinates to take action against the erring people, without fear or favour. Reportedly, hundreds of trucks carrying iron ore without proper papers have been taken into possession. The trucks carrying over 16 tonnes of ore, which is the legal limit, are also facing the heat.
As vigil at check posts has been tightened, the number of trucks moving out of the district with iron ore loads has fallen considerably. The forest department employees too have received instructions to keep day-night vigil on illegal mining activities within the forest region, it is learnt.
