Mangaluru, Feb 20: The post of the western range inspector general of police (IGP) with headquarters in the city and having jurisdiction over Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts, has been left unfilled since the last 20 days.
The government had promoted former IGP here, Arun J Chakravarthy, as additional director general of police and transferred. In his place, Seemant Kumar Singh was appointed on January 31. But on February 1, the order was modified and Seemant Kumar Singh's posting was cancelled. When doing so, the government did not post a replacement for Arun Chakravarthy.
Arun J Chakravarthy was in-charge of this range for 20 days. On Wednesday February 19, he was relieved from the post and handed over charge to Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Laxmi Prasad, before leaving for Bengaluru. The post of the IGP therefore is vacant.
Even though the name of Praveen Madhukar, currently functioning as IGP at Bengaluru is doing the rounds, his posting as IGP western range has not been confirmed.
