Sullia, Oct 28: Dr K G Nayak (71), dean of KVG Medical College and Hospital here, breathed his last due to cardiac arrest, on Monday October 26. He is survived by wife, Dr Sheela G Nayak, who is the principal of KVG Medical College here, and two daughters.

Nayak, who was from Karkala, had taught at Hubli, Bellary and Mysore government medical colleges from 1966 onwards, after getting his Master of Surgery degree. During his service, he worked as teacher, post-graduate teacher and examiner. For seven years, he had headed the surgery department of Mysore Medical College. Since the last few years, he had been functioning as the dean of KVG Medical College and Hospital.

He had authored over 35 scientific essays. He was popular among the students and had guided thousands of medical and post-graduate students.

    Was Prof Dr Nayak's favourite student at MMC before his retirement . Am shocked to note that he passed away in 2009.. He was one of my inspiration to take up surgery after Prof Giri Gowda one who passed away much before him. One of his daughters was my immediate juniors and his wife was my Anatomy teacher (though I don't hold good memories of her). May his soul rest in peace. You will be remembered always and the memories and inspirational stories, fun will always be remembered

    The best teacher..the best surgeon.. no body can be like him..I still remember how he motivated students..my favourite..no partiality..I hope he has left some of his principles in his wife..dr.kg nayak will be remembered always

    After joining to KVG Medical college only I know him . only once I made general discussion with him . really it was pleasure to me My heartfelt condolences to his family members and management, staff & students of KVGMC Sullia.

    Dr. Nayak had an inimitable and unique style of teaching, and countless medical students benefited from him, I being one of them (MMC 1984-89). His passing is a loss to the community of medical students. My condolences and prayers are with his family. Incidentally, Dr. Mrs. Nayak was also one of my revered anatomy teachers.

     Its very sad news for me. I got job in Mysore because of him/his influence. He's very great person and I can not pay back in any way for his blessings. I pray god for him.
