Udupi, Feb 13: Among the districts that have registered appreciable achievements in providing revenue department services to the people, Udupi district administration has topped the state.
Udupi district, with 69 out of maximum 100 points, finds itself at the helm of the list of districts which have efficiently implemented revenue department services. Chitradurga with 56.5 points has got the second spot while Uttara Kannada with 50.9 points has been relegated to the third spot.
'Bhoomi' mutation for farmers within 30 days, land conversion for residential or commercial purpose, quick disposal of cases spending in assistant commissioner's court, RTC survey, Podi services ,disposal of cases pending in deputy commissioner's court and handling of A and B cases etc are considered when awarding marks for performance.
Out of the 238 taluks in the state, 15 top taluks under this category have been listed. Seven taluks from the district find themselves in this list. Again, five among the top 10 taluks have registered good performance. The first place has gone to Udupi taluk, with the second and third spots going to Kaup and Brahmavar taluks.
Ranks are allotted on the basis of promptness in extending services to people within a fixed time frame. The district administration also gets credit this time for planning for the first time in the state to deliver pensions at the doorsteps of pensioners. It has also been striving to honestly deliver services to even poor people without making them to visit offices often.
Deputy commissioner of the district G Jagadeesha, said that special interest was evinced in handling of revenue department as there were numerous complaints about its functioning. He said that with determination and interest, action was taken to avoid making people to run from pillar to post to get things done. "I personally reviewed progress of the department in the implementation of works. We ensured that works were attended to faster by contacting people over phone," he stated. He said that efforts would be made to retain the top slot earned by the revenue department of this district.
