Panaji, Feb 12: Goa imposed section 144 of CrPC for two months citing intelligence inputs regarding possible terror threats along the western coast.

North District Magistrate R Menaka, in a notification issued on Monday, said that the order imposing section 144 of CrPC will be in effect from February 11 for 60 days, up to April 10 unless withdrawn earlier.

The notification said that the section has been imposed in view of the prevailing situation in the country and intelligence inputs regarding possible terror threats along the western coast of India and the possibility of anti-social elements with an intention of committing crime in Goa or elsewhere.

Menaka said, "It is absolutely necessary to take speedy measures to prevent danger to human life and to thwart and prevent any type of terrorist activities which may affect the security of the state and create disturbance of public order and tranquility.”

The District Magistrate ordered all the owners of houses, buildings, flats and other residential accommodation and owners of hotels, lodging and boarding, private guest houses, paying guest accommodation of religious bodies etc to strictly verify the antecedents of all the persons before letting out their premises on lease, rent or hire.
