Mangaluru, Feb 11: Konaje police station personnel on Tuesday, February 11, arrested three people over allegations by the parents of female madrasa students that they had waylaid the girls when they were on their way to the madrasa and later attempted to rape them.
The arrested suspects are Ugganabail, Pavoor resident Kiran Kumar (26), Ugganabail Bangarapade resident Gunapal (25) and Neermarga Vantemar resident Subhash (29).
“The three girls were going to the madrasa situated at Malara, Pavoor village on Monday, February 10. Meanwhile, three people who were sitting near Malar bridge asked the girls the way to Ugganabail. When the girls were showing the way, one of them held the hand of one of the girls tightly. The girl bit the hand of the man, fled to the madrasa and informed the teacher there. Later, other two men tried to molest two other girls, threatened to kill them and fled,” states the police complaint.

Konaje station police personnel, who were on the lookout for the accused, received information that they were at Ugganabail, Pavoor village. The trio tried to escape when police reached there. However, the police personnel succeeded in arresting them. The third accused was arrested from Vantemar, Neermarga.
Police have slapped cases of kidnap, attempt to rape, attempted murder and POCSO cases against the arrested.
Locals had gathered on Monday night as the news spread in the vicinity and urged for the arrest of accused. Strict security was arranged at the spot.
