Mangaluru: CCB police arrest three transporting drugs from Mumbai in BMW car

Mangaluru, Feb 9: Sleuths of the city crime branch (CCB) on Sunday February 9 arrested three persons for allegedly peddling MDMA (Methylene dioxy methamphetamine) drug to customers in the city, after procuring the same fromo Mumbai.

The arrest operation was jointly conducted by the CCB and police personnel of the economic and narcotic wing.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Shareef Siddique (40), a resident of Chokkabettu, Suratkal, Mohammed Shafi (33), a resident of Katipalla, and Mohammed Anas (27) of Kaikamba.

MDMA is a banned drug. Based on definite information that the drug was being illegally transported in a luxury car to Mangaluru after being bought in Mumbai, the police inspected cars on Mangaluru-Udupi highway and managed to waylay the accused persons' car.

The police recovered Rs 87,560 worth of MDMA drugs from the accused, along with three mobile phones. The BMW car which they were using to transport the drugs was also confiscated. The total worth of seized items, including the car, is estimated at Rs 51,12,560.

The accused had planned to sell the drugs to customers and students in Mangaluru for money, police said.

Among the acuused, Mohammed Shareef Siddique already faces charges in other drugs related cases in Suratkal police station. Mohammed Shafi alias Chappi is an accused in a murder attempt case in Suratkal police station, and also in a drug peddling case in Kankanady city police. Mohammed Anas is an accused in a murder case in Suratkal police station.

The arrested operation was conducted under the direction of police commissioner Dr Harsha, and under the guidance of DCPs Laxmi Ganesh (crime and traffic) and led by CCB inspector Shivaprakash R Naik. PSI Kabbalraj, and other police personnel were part of the operation.
