Sullia, Oct 21: This year, the annual 'Champa Shashti' festival of Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, a famous pilgrimage centre in Dakshina Kannada district, will be held on November 23. The programmes related with the festival will be initiated on November 14, the day on which the huge 'Kopparige' will be elevated onto the hearth and end with the lowering of the 'Kopparige' on November 27.
A preliminary meeting in connection with the festival, to discuss about various department-wise services for the convenience of thousands of devotees who will throng the temple town during this period, was held recently, under the presidentship of the temple administrative officer and Puttur assistant commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar, in the temple premises.
The principal and staff of Subrahmanyeshwar College here were handed over the responsibility of controlling the crowd that will be visiting the temple during this period, at the entry tower, outer precincts, Adi Subrahmanya premises, dining hall etc., by systematically handling the visitors by forming queues. These volunteers will also control the crowd at the eastern entry, western entry, luggage room and information counter.
The PU College principal here was handed the responsibility of distributing food on the Chowti, Panchami, Shashti and Avabhruta days on which the crowd is expected to be very heavy. It was decided to arrange for the distribution of food at the Angadigudde all the 24 hours of the day, with the help of the local volunteers and those who will be deputed by various organizations.
Parking: It was decided to arrange for the parking of vehicles coming from the direction of Sullia near the Kannadi River bridge, and for those coming from Puttur, Gundia and Uppinanggady, at the PU College ground. Subjects of law and order, health, sanitation, electricity, street lights etc., were also taken up for discussion. The departments concerned were requested to extend full cooperation during the festival period.
Sullia tahsildar Baburao Patel, zilla panchayat member Venkat Dambekody, taluk panchayat member Monappa Poojary, gram panchayat president Chandrakala, former managing trustees T Venkatraman Bhat and Kenya Ravindranath Shetty, taluk health officer Subrahmanya Rao, Subrahmanya police station in charge M N Rao, KSRTC Puttur depot manager Venugopal, temple executive officer Ningaiah and PU college principal G Dinesh Kamat were present.
