Udupi, Oct 20 (DHNS): The Vishwa Tulu Sahithya Sammelana Committee has chosen Pejawar mutt seer Sri Vishweshatheertha Sripada as the Honorary President for the Sammelana to be held at Ujire from December 10 to 13.
Speaking to media persons here, Committe Working President and Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade informed that the three-day Sammelana is an effort to preserve and promote Tulu culture and heritage.
The sammelana will be divided into three sections ‘Kode’ (yesterday), ‘Eni’ (today), ‘Yelle’ (tomorrow). Six ‘Goshtis’ will be held simultaneously on the occasion.
Prior to the sammelana, regional programmes will be organised at various places in the erstwhile Dakshina Kannada district.
Accordingly, Udupi will be the venue for the ‘knowledge centre’ showcasing the traditional attires and jewelleries of Tulunadu, he said.
Confluence
Speaking on the occasion, Pejawar seer said that the Sammelana will be a confluence of literature, art and religious ceremonies.
Survival of a culture wholly depends on language. The dissemination of language aids conservation of the culture. Tulu language should be accorded the status it truly deserves, the seer said.
Languages part of culture
“The people of the erstwhile Dakshina Kannada district have two mother tongues- Kannada and Tulu. “Both the languages are the part of the culture over here,” he opined. Paryaya Putthige mutt seer Sri Sugunendratheertha, Alva’s Education Trust Chairman Dr Mohan Alva, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, Industrialist Pramodh Madhvaraj and others were present at the press meet.
