Udupi, Oct 19: The Swamijis of the Mutts attached to Sri Krishna Mutt here took part in the Deepavali celebrations as per traditions. On Saturday October 17, Paryaya Puttige Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji, Pejawar Mutt Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji and Kaniyoor Sri Vidyavallabhateertha Swamiji applied oil to the bodies of Bheemanakatte Mutt Sri Raghumanyateertha Swamiji and Raghuvarendrateertha Swamiji and bathed them.
On Sunday October 18, a two-day exhibition of Goodu Deepas was unveiled at Rajangan here. The exhibition is being held under the joint aegis of Paryaya Puttige Mutt and Lions Club. It was inaugurated on Sunday evening by Paryaya Puttige Sri Sugunendrateertha Swamiji. Lions Club representatives Indrali Jayakar Shetty, Eshwar Shetty Chitpady, Suresh Prabhu etc., were present.
A total of 57 Goodu Deepas participated in the Goodu Deepa contest. In the traditional section, Yadav Nayak Hirebettu bagged the first prize. In the new style Goodu Deepas, Abharan Jewellers here turned the winners. In the public section, Vishwanath and Vighnesh from Mangalore were declared the winners. In the section meant for self-made Goodu Deepas, Yashwant Bhakta Gundibail won the prize. The prize meant for the smallest Goodu Deepa went to Sharvani from the town, while the on-the-spot Goodu Deepa making contest was won by Lasya here.
On Sunday, Paryaya Puttige Mutt Sri Sugunendrateertha performed 'Gau Pooja' by offering Arati to the cows and feeding them. The members of the general public were also given an opportunity to perform the Gau puja on the occasion.
