Mumbai, Feb 5: Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday slammed BJP for stating that his idea of Hindutva is different.
The Shiv Sena claimed BJP used religion to grab power and it was not the version of Hindutva he believed in.
"I don’t want a Hindu Rashtra which is not peaceful. Using religion and grabbing power is not my Hindutva," Thackeray said.
Continuing his attack on BJP, a former ally of the Sena, Thackeray said, "People killing one another and creating unrest in the country is also not his version of a Hindu Rashtra. That’s not what I have been taught."
The Maharashtra chief minister’s statement comes just a few days after he said the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will not be implemented in Maharashtra. However, he defended the Citizens Amendment Act (CAA) as it does not take away people’s citizenship rights. In the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana, Thackeray said the Citizenship Act is not about taking away citizenship, it is about giving citizenship to persecuted minorities from neighbouring nations.
"Proving citizenship will be difficult for both Hindus and Muslims. I will not let that happen," he asserted
