Puttur, Oct 16: Due to the speeding winds and heavy rains that drenched Kadaba in Puttur taluk and several places of Karkala taluk on Thursday October 15, many houses were damaged and two heads of cattle lost their lives.
Twelve houses located in Kalara Janata Colony of Kadaba suffered damages. Falling jack fruit and cashew trees smashed the roofs of two houses while cement sheets covering a house belonging to a man named Adam were blown away. Several electric poles snapped and power connection to most of the houses in the region got severed. A number of coconut and areca nut trees too got uprooted, damaging more houses. Crops and houses were also damaged in Kunthurpadav village near Kadaba.
During the rain with lightning that lashed Karkala taluk, cattle shed located in Kervashe village was struck by lightning, taking away the lives of a cow and its calf in the bargain. A house in Mudar village in the taluk was damaged due to a fallen tree.
Mani and Puttur recorded four cms of rain each. The meteorological department has predicted rains at several places in southern hinterlands and a couple of places in northern hinterlands.
