Mangalore: Turbulent First Attempt - Air India Flight Lands at Bajpe Airport on Second Attempt

Mangalore, Oct 11: The Air India flight from Mumbai on Saturday Oct 10 landed at the Bajpe Airport here landed successfully on a second attempt.

In a very rare instance, the pilot of the said flight who touched the runway heard a loud thud and sensing the danger took to flight again only to land successfully after few minutes. The passengers on board too were anxious for a while on hearing the sound. 

The sources explained that the incident as above is very rare and the pilots take such actions only when the attempt to touch the runway is not smooth as well as to avoid any danger keeping mind the well being of the passengers on board. Due to the incident, the return flight service was delayed by 10 minutes.

    Dear all, This is what aviation is all about and the reason why pilots are being paid for. TOGA is an emergency procedure. You must be bothered about the well being of the passengers and not criticize Air India. Air India being a PSU is always in the news. Do you get news about any other airline,no, so you think those airlines are operating without any emergency and are safer than Air India. The case is not that. They donot flash their news. Incidents are subsided. you come to know only a few. Every airline has these sort of situations.

    Aviation safety is something one has to read and then understnd. So please, simply donot comment without knowing what Aviation is all about. A passanger pays money and flies. In the background there is much more than one would have thought. So appreciate the pilots capability on landing in bad weather on a runway as that of Mangalore. Every pilot has to be cleared for operating on such a runway after being cleared by a check pilot for minimum 3 landings. On a table top runway with the ongoing weather condition and wind direction a pilot has to be much more careful. Hope you all understand.Thanks.

    Dear Lance, I fully endorse the views of Surhoor.... 100% in toto. And for my good friends ... Mandar Halbe and Lance Shenoy, what's wrong with what I have written. There are several recurring incident ONLY happening in India...not elsewhere...yet we do not learn out of these, and for your kind information, aren't we ALWAYS forfeiting our precious lives by sitting on a PERMANENT TICKING TIME BOMB ready for explosion, everytime? At whose cost....who cares !!

    This is a very common scenario in aviation, specially in rough weather. Every pilot is trained to do this. It is called TOGA or Take Off Go Around and is not at all an easy procedure. This maybe one of the very few times it has happened in Mangalore. This aborted landing is not restricted to Air India and could have happened to any airplane. Air India being in the news recently for different reasons shouldn't spark sarcastic comments on events like this.

    THE NOISE COULD BE THE CO PILOT HITTING THE AIR HOSTESS ON HER HEAD AS IN THE CASE RECENTLY WITH THE DUBAI_LUCKNOW FLIGHT. AIR INDIA IS GOOD FOR ANY SURPRISE AT ANY TIME !!!

    Daijiworld should have mentioned the Flight No. of this very special flight which touched down Bajpe and again went to the skies. Surely, must have been very special for the passengers alike. Great. Henceforth, we can expect all flights to ''touch and go'' at Bajpe on a double attempt basis, isn't it? Air India's name should enter into the Guinness Book of World Records for this 'amazing' feat during turbulent times it is facing through. Hardly heard of this type of an incident from other reputed global airlines, I suppose. After all, it happens only in India.
